Similar to subtitles on TV, live subtitling is produced by a realtime stenographer and displayed on a plasma screen, for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.
Captioning needs a script and a caption unit. Live subtitling can be projected or on a screen, and can follow improvised AND scripted material.
Captioning or subtitling are useful to many more people than a BSL interpreter. Less than 1% of the 9 million deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people in the UK use BSL. And subtitling helps foreign audience members too.

Claire is due to be in Edinburgh 13th to 27th August 2018 inclusive and subject to availability can book a live-subtitled show on any of those dates.
